Our Mission Calling and Fundraising

Our Mission and Fundraiser
Hello,
We are Abby and Patrick McGinn. Married in 2022 in Sacramento, CA and active members of our Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Land Park. We are fundraising to cover our living expenses to live in Hong Kong for three months while building up the kingdom of God and spreading the word of God to those we encounter. If you know us, my wife is more introverted and I am more extroverted. We are opposites in some ways, but we balance and compliment one another skills and behaviors and are both completely abandoning ourselves to the will of God.

How did this all happen? I can only describe it as God's timing
My wife and I were already planning an extended vacation for Spring 2024, but we wanted to do more to help people internationally. We were looking at international Catholic opportunities but hadn't found any that were a good fit for married couples. Then, at church one Sunday soon after, Tricia Bolle, the Founder and Director of the St. Francis Xavier Lay Missionary Society presented during the homily. Unbeknownst to each other, our hearts were moved, and leapt with joy when we heard about her missionary programs and the impact they have. After church we when got to the car, we talked about it and discovered we both felt the same thing. Never have we both felt so strongly about something or felt a strong pull in a single direction independently. This was divine.

The Mission and Impact of Your Support
We have discerned a call from God to build up ministries in the Hong Kong Diocese for young adults and those in need. We will lead retreats, give presentations, hold social events, lead social justice and works of mercy, and grow our faith and lead others through faith formation. There is no limit to the good we can do with God and you.
This mission is so important to us too because we are able to take our experiences good and bad and use them to bring others closer to Christ. God has been building both of us up for many years, but this calling to Hong Kong was completely unexpected and something we never considered doing. We made ourselves completely open to the will of God and when he presented an opportunity, we discerned, trusted, said yes, and never questioned it.

Use of Funds
The St. Francis Xavier Lay Missionary Society will be covering half the total costs to get us to Hong Kong and support us while we are there for 3 months. We are responsible to fundraising the other half.
The funds will go towards our living expenses so that we don't have to worry about finances and can focus on building ministries for the Diocese of Hong Kong. We will be serving 6 days on and one day off each week. We will be training in a missionary training program for 4 to 6 weeks ahead of time in San Francisco or Southern California. More on that in a future post

Journey with Us
We invite you to journey with us and follow us here. We will be updating this blog weekly and sending out updates via email for those who have sent us their emails.
You can have a direct impact on the faith of others, the growth of the church, our spiritual growth, and the material and spiritual well being of others.
Please pray about it and consider giving, not just a one time donation, but a monthly donation. We each need to raise $6,000 and your continued support will make a huge difference.

About Us
My wife is into creating art, learning about everything, architecture, natural history, world cultures, catholic faith and spirituality, baking, books, and learning about real estate investing.
There is no doubt that we will be writing about these topics over the next year. We are excited you are here and hope you enjoy this journey we are now all on together.
I am into topics related to emergency/disaster services, personal finance, our catholic faith, spirituality, and living the faith in action, hiking in nature, movies, games, and discovering and making music.

Our Basic Catholic Beliefs:
Literally meaning universal. This is in reference to our faith beliefs, worldview, and many of the religious sites we will be visiting. Catholics believe that God reveals himself to all people through Jesus Christ, and that the purpose of life is to know, love, and serve God.
"God, infinitely perfect and blessed in himself, in a plan of sheer goodness freely created man to share in his own blessed life. For this reason, at every time and in every place, God draws close to man. He calls man to seek him, to know him, and to love him with all his strength. He calls together all men, scattered and divided by sin, into the unity of his family, the Church" (Catechism of the Catholic Church).
To be Catholic is to be Christian:
We believe in God,
the Father almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried;
he descended into hell;
on the third day he rose again from the dead;
he ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty;
from there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
We honor Mary the same way you would honor your mother= by keeping a good relationship with her, calling often, and asking her to pray for you.
